CFH

CFH, a serum glycoprotein produced by the liver and other cells, plays a crucial role in regulating the complement system. Its main function is to prevent C3 convertase formation in the complement bypass pathway and to facilitate its breakdown by binding to C3b, thereby regulating complement activation and protecting host cells from damage. CFH's biological significance is broad, protecting cells during immune responses and preventing excessive complement system activation. It is also implicated in the development of various diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), certain kidney diseases, and cardiovascular diseases, with mutations or abnormal expressions of the CFH gene being closely associated with these conditions.
