HDAC2

HDAC2, also known as Histone Deacetylase 2, and by other names such as HD 2, HD2, HDAC 2, Hdac2, Histone deacetylase 2 (HD2), and Histone deacetylase 2, is an enzyme encoded by the HDAC2 gene. It is a member of Class I histone deacetylases and primarily functions in the cell nucleus. The mechanism of action for HDAC2 involves removing acetyl groups from histones and non-histone proteins, regulating chromatin structure and gene transcription activity. The activity of HDAC2 is regulated by various factors, including metabolites and cellular signaling molecules.

HDAC2 is involved in the regulation of multiple cellular activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation, metabolism, and apoptosis. Dysfunctions in HDAC2 are closely associated with the development of various diseases, particularly cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. For example, alterations in the expression levels of HDAC2 occur in certain cancers, potentially affecting tumor cell proliferation and migration. Additionally, HDAC2 is involved in the cellular response to oxidative stress, regulating the expression of antioxidant genes and protecting cells from oxidative damage. Therefore, HDAC2 is an important molecular target in cellular biology and disease research, and small molecule inhibitors targeting HDAC2 are being developed for the treatment of related diseases.
