IRS2

IRS2, insulin receptor substrate 2, alias IRS-2.IRS2 is encoded by the human IRS2 gene, which is located on chromosome 19 in the q13.32 region.IRS2 is a cytoplasmic signaling molecule that regulates the action of insulin (INS), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF), by acting as a molecular adapter between different receptor tyrosine kinases and downstream effectors and other cytokines. IRS2 is phosphorylated by insulin receptor tyrosine kinases upon receptor stimulation, which in turn activates downstream signaling molecules such as PI3K.
IRS2 plays an important role in the regulation of insulin signaling, affecting cell growth, survival, and material metabolism processes, and is implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and neurodegenerative disorders. Changes in the expression and activity of IRS2 are associated with insulin sensitivity, and its impaired function may lead to insulin resistance.
