KIR2DL3

KIR2DL3, also known as Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL3, is a protein encoded by the KIR2DL3 gene. It is also commonly referred to as CD158e2. This protein plays a crucial role in the immune system by recognizing specific HLA-C allotypes on target cells. The interaction between KIR2DL3 and HLA-C inhibits natural killer (NK) cell activation, thus regulating immune responses.
KIR2DL3 is involved in the NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity pathway. Dysregulation of KIR2DL3 has been associated with various diseases, including autoimmune diseases and certain types of cancer. In drug development, targeting KIR2DL3 has emerged as a potential strategy for enhancing anti-tumor immune responses. Some monoclonal antibodies are under research to modulate its function.
