TNC

TNC, referred to as glial element C or Tenascin-C, is a large glycoprotein found extensively in the extracellular matrix, with production primarily by fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells. Characterized by a multi-domain structure, TNC engages various cell surface receptors and extracellular matrix components, influencing cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, and differentiation. This protein is vital for tissue homeostasis and wound healing. However, during tumorigenesis, elevated TNC levels can foster cancer cell invasion and metastasis, contributing to a tumor-promoting microenvironment and disease progression. TNC is also linked to chronic inflammation and fibrosis, highlighting its complex role in biological processes.
