VDAC2

VDAC2, also known as Voltage-Dependent Anion Channel 2, is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein. It is also commonly called Porin 2. VDAC2 plays a crucial role in regulating the transport of metabolites and ions across the mitochondrial outer membrane. It is involved in the apoptosis signaling pathway, acting as a gatekeeper to control the release of apoptotic factors from mitochondria.
Dysregulation of VDAC2 has been linked to various diseases, such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. In cancer, abnormal VDAC2 expression can contribute to tumor cell survival and resistance to chemotherapy. Currently, researchers are exploring VDAC2 as a potential target for drug development to disrupt cancer cell metabolism and induce apoptosis.
