Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
Inhibins and activins inhibit and activate, respectively, the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland. Inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins appear to oppose the functions of activins.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Activin B induced phosphorylation and activation of Smad1/5/8, the BMP-regulated (BR)-Smads. The stimulation of hepcidin transcription by activin B was mediated by ALK2 and ActRIIA, receptors for the TGF-beta family. PMID:27922109
  2. RhoA regulates Activin B-induced stress fiber formation and migration of Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. PMID:27693126
  3. Results identified Inhbb as one factor mediating the proliferative effect of Pdx-1 on islet cells. PMID:27620967
  4. Fluorine had no effect on the expression of androgen binding protein and inhibin B mRNA in testis sertoli cells of Sprague Dawley rats. PMID:21033444
  5. p,p'-DDE could inhibit the expression of inhibin B in rat Sertoli cells. PMID:19877505
  6. TNFalpha and IL1alpha supresses inhibin B secretion and expression in rat Sertoli cells PMID:21256182
  7. inhibin is a major regulator of FS, both by transcriptional and nontranscriptional mechanisms. PMID:14561646
  8. inhibin B is the major inhibin in the male rat and that levels relate to Sertoli cell number and activity. PMID:15070852
  9. inhibins A and B differentially antagonize the actions of activins and BMPs to control adrenocortical C(19) steroid production PMID:16601134
  10. Regulation of pituitary Nr5a2, Inhba, and Inhbb transcripts was limited to young animals. PMID:17344471
  11. propose hypothesis that increase in growth rate subsequent to weaning signals circulating inhibin B levels to fall and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide to decrease and these events facilitate the rise in follicle-stimulating hormone b PMID:18160680
  12. The effect of steroidogenic substrates and follicle stimulating hormone on steroid, inhibin A and B, Pro-alphaC and activin A production was evaluated. PMID:19464342
  13. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide increased the production of interleukin 1alpha and activin A, and reduced production of inhibin B, in Sertoli cells from immature male rats. PMID:19524137
