Target Background

Function(From Uniprot)
This is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins that stimulate adenylate cyclase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Results indicate that visceral nociceptive transmission through the caudal medulla is negatively modulated by descending serotonin type 4 receptor dependent mechanisms. PMID:28754313
  2. Results support a specific role for 5-HT4-receptors in fine-tuning of the dynamic capacity of hippocampal synapses to express synaptic plasticity. PMID:26800645
  3. Study suggests a novel role for the 5-HT4 receptor in facilitation of dendrite formation in which intracellular signaling of PKA and the BDNF-TrkB system may be involved. PMID:27894797
  4. 5-HT4 receptor regulating insulin secretion and acting as a potential drug target in diabetes treatment PMID:27423314
  5. Increased p11 expression by BDNF and imipramine unraveled a 5-HT4R-mediated modulation of cardiac Ca(2+) handling PMID:26427584
  6. A novel apical 5-HT4 -mediated bicarbonate secretory pathway and an nitric oxide-dependent inhibitory mechanism are present in the proximal colon PMID:26061462
  7. Results indicate that 5-HT4 receptors are not synthesized by cholinergic cells, and thus would be absent from cholinergic terminals. Several non-cholinergic cell populations in the basal forebrain and its target express these receptors. PMID:25183542
  8. Anhedonia, not despair or a decline in exploratory interest, may be associated with upregulation of Let-7a and downregulation of Htr4 expression in the hippocampus; hippocampal Htr4 level may be regulated by Let-7a in rats PMID:24582667
  9. We conclude that the 5-HT4(a)-receptor may play a more prominent role in the modulation of motor cortico-ponto-cerebellar, cortico-spinal, rubro-spinal, vestibulo-spinal and cortico-nuclear tracts during juvenile development. PMID:24412663
  10. Activation of 5-HT4 receptors facilitates expression of long-term depression at hippocampal output synapses in acute rat brain slices. PMID:24505387
  11. the 5-HT(4) receptor is a representative of a foetal cardiac gene program, functional in late foetal development and reactivated in heart failure. PMID:23029047
  12. Mucosal 5-HT(4) receptor activation can mediate the prokinetic and antinociceptive actions of 5-HT(4)R agonists. PMID:22226658
  13. beta(1)-AR and 5-HT(4) receptor signalling are subject to opposite regulatory control by cGMP generated by soluble guanylyl cyclase in failing hearts. PMID:21901315
  14. Up-regulation of 5-HT3 and 5-HT4 receptors expression in the mucosal/submucosal layer is involved to restore the delayed transit after the parasympathetic denervation in rats. PMID:20691988
  15. Selective activation of 5-HT(4) receptors improved memory performance in an olfactory associative discrimination task in aged rats PMID:21745655
  16. Study revealed that 5-HT4b, 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B coexisted in auricular myocytes of newborn rat, that 5-HT4 activation reduced cAMP concentration, ICaL and intercellular coupling whereas 5-HT2A or 5-HT2B activation conversely enhanced GJIC. PMID:19615378
  17. results suggest that 5-HT(4) receptors can modulate GABAergic signalling bidirectionally, depending on the basal PKA activation levels that are determined by neuronal activity PMID:11986365
  18. results report that serotonin 4(a) receptors are strongly expressed in respiratory Pre-Boetzinger complex neurons and that their selective activation protects spontaneous respiratory activity PMID:12855812
  19. 5-HT4 receptors located within the cholinergic nucleus basalis magnocellularis may play a role in spatial memory PMID:14557615
  20. Lysine may be a partial 5-HT4 receptor antagonist and suppresses 5-HT4 receptor-mediated intestinal pathologies and anxiety in rats PMID:14676321

  22. key role for 5-HT4 receptors in the regulation of synaptic plasticity and the determination of the particular properties of stored synaptic information PMID:15537670
  23. Positive inotropic response of failing heart to 5-HT(4) stimulation results from increased L-type Ca2+ current/sarcoplamic reticulum Ca(2+) content. PMID:17660386

  25. Functional 5-HT(2A) and 5-HT(4) receptors are differentially induced in LV hypertrophy and failure. PMID:17936780
  26. Serotonin 4a receptors were found predominantly in the neuropilat late embryonic (E18-E20) stages. At birth, expression was predominantly somatic. PMID:18076058
  27. complete recovery of associative learning performance in the lesioned rats by 5-HT4 receptor agonists PMID:18485752
  28. 5-HT4 receptor-mediated positive inotropic responses in failing rat ventricle were cAMPdependent. PMID:18846035
