Kidney Cancer

Kidney cancer, also known as renal cell carcinoma, is a malignant tumor originating from the epithelial cells of the renal tubules and can occur anywhere in the kidney. The clinical manifestations of kidney cancer are variable and can be easily misdiagnosed as other diseases. Common symptoms include hematuria, back pain, mass, and systemic manifestations such as fever and hypertension.

Traditional treatments for kidney cancer include surgical resection, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. In recent years, the development of targeted therapy and immunotherapy provides new treatment options for kidney cancer patients.

Targeted therapy drugs specialize in targeting specific abnormalities in cancer cells and kill cancer cells by blocking these abnormalities. For example, VEGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor drugs are common targeted drugs for kidney cancer.
Immunotherapy, on the other hand, utilizes the patient's own immune system to fight cancer, working by interfering with the mechanisms by which cancer cells evade the immune system.PD-1 inhibitors and CTLA-4 inhibitors are two commonly used immune checkpoint inhibitors, which work by activating T-cells to attack cancer cells.
